Very easy to use spreadsheet for sizing rafters, stanchions and haunches in single span portal frames at preliminary design stage. Based on Method 1 in Appendix A in SCI Publication P252: Design of single-span steel portal frames to BS 5950-1: 2000 - preliminary design. Saves you time finding required sizes in tables and writing up a calculation page. Spreadsheet is for estimating purpose only and detailed design should still be carried out. Appendix A in SCI Publication P252 does not take account of stability at the ultimate limit state, deflections at the serviceability limit state.
